Every dog adoption story has the potential to give you the feel-good feels and restore some positivity in the world, especially at a lockdown time when we could all do with a pick me up. At Paws, nothing picks us up more, reminds us to keep going or gives us more of a reason to smile than when a PAWS dog finds their forever home. Especially, when that dog is a ‘long termer’ that had been waiting an extra long time and a breed type that can find it a bit harder to get adopted than other breeds.
Frank arrived at PAWS at a time when there were quite a few bull breeds that were already looking for their forever home at the shelter. Apart from a sadness in his eyes due to not having had the best start in life, Frank was strikingly handsome, clever and made it very clear he was happiest when a paws team member would come sit beside him in his kennel so he could try lay across their lap and give them all the love and licks or bring them a Teddy.
Despite his very friendly disposition and his quiet, sweet character, Frank would still often get overlooked by visitors to PAWS. Bull breeds are among the breeds more difficult to rehome in rescue. This can often be due to the negative associations with the breed or poor media portrayal. It’s important to say every dog in rescue has had a pre assessment of their character to help determine what kind of home would suit them best. The team that work with them and look after them know each individual dog and spend so much time with them, they are able to fill every adopter in completely on what they can expect and how to look after each dog. Bull breeds are often among some of the sweetest dogs we would have in PAWS and often can be at the shelter for very long periods, sometimes years, waiting to be adopted. Frank was no exception to this, unfortunately.
However, it was worth the wait! One day a couple had heard about Frank and came to see him at PAWS. It was love at first sight on both sides. Frank instantly knew he’d met his forever family and made sure they knew it by covering them in slobbering kisses and rubbing up against their legs with a very waggy tail. Frank was adopted shortly after and has been living a very happy life since. He’s taken settling into his new home all in his stride even with a new Instagram account to document what he gets upto every day and going on adventures. He no longer has a sadness behind the eyes but the sparkle of a very happy dog that would have you beaming just being in his company. He’s found his special home worthy of a special dog. Each dog in rescue deserves the chance at a new start and a loving home like Frank. Some end up in rescue after having suffered a tragic abuse, some have been abandoned by previous owners or a change in circumstances leaves them with no one to look after them or sometimes they’ve been saved from euthanasia at the pound or were found straying. What they all have in common is a desire for a new home where they can be loved and safe and in return be the best companions and give their owners love and loyalty, just like Frank.
